Our event brings together diverse founders to open up a conversation about their journeys, trials, and success. We welcome entrepreneurs of all types, start-ups of all sizes, industries, and stages to join us in finding the inspiration, resources, and friends that will make them successful.
Whether our members are just beginning to build a company, or are years into their venture, we aim to refer to the best services available for helping them achieve their goals through honest and open workshops and panels. We aim to work with sponsors and partners who share our vision in helping the start-up community grow and succeed.

Leslie Short brings four decades of experience when she created The Cavu Group to focus on Diversity & Inclusion in an effort to facilitate and create new solutions to old and new issues. Her talents and skills are uniquely designed to seek growth through open conversations, conflict coaching, trainings and workshops. She firmly believes that issues don’t go away because programs are in place but by continually evolving and having a channel to listen and understand the people who are our greatest assets.
Leslie also brings her experiences from being trained as a classical ballet dancer at the age of 7 turning professional at 12. Living in Europe for over 10 years and Asia for 3. Owning a #1 rated business in Japan. Coming back to America and working in TV, Corporate America as well as the Fashion/Entertainment-industry to being a sort after Corporate Operations Strategist for celebrities and companies including ABC Shark Tank star “Daymond John” and his companies FUBU the Collection, FB Entertainment, The Shark Group & blueprint + co. Leslie has been developing Multi-cultural/mosaic marketing, programing and opportunities as far back as 1998.
Leslie is also a chaplain, activist, certified mental health aide, certified mediator and conflict coach.
Iman Oubou is a Moroccan-American self-made entrepreneur, published scientist and former beauty queen (Miss New York US 2015 and 2nd Runner Up at the 2015 Miss United States pageant) on a mission to change the women’s media landscape.
Through her diverse experience with business, pageantry and STEM, Iman noticed gender disparities in the workforce and an omnipresent bias across printed and digital media representation of women which inspired her to launch SWAAY, a digital platform highlighting stories of female leaders challenging the status-quo, and championing the voices of female change-makers through substantive and inspiring, non-clickbait content.
Her podcast, Women Who SWAAY, which was syndicated by media conglomerate, Westwood One, was number 2 on iTunes in 2015, and was ranked in the top 5 best podcasts for women entrepreneurs by Inc. Magazine.
Iman was named by CIO Magazine the number one “Female Entrepreneur to Watch” in 2018 and recently became the first ever “Visage Du Maroc” of 2018 (which translates to Face of Morocco), a new initiative uplifting female voices in Morocco and across the Middle East. in 2018, Iman had the honors to be one of 2018’s keynote speakers at Harvard Women In Business and a keynote at 2019 MIT Conference. She was also part of the first ever all-female judge panel at Miss Universe.
Del Johnson is a Principal at Backstage Capital, a seed stage VC fund and international startup accelerator that has invested in over 100 companies started by women, people of color and LGBTQ founders. His focus is sourcing and vetting potential portfolio investments, as well as supporting operations on the East Coast. Previously, Del worked with the People Operations team at Google where he coordinated Google and YouTube’s software engineering Hiring Committee and was awarded tech staffing honors for creating the first successful initiative to source and screen underrepresented software engineering talent from coding bootcamps. He was also an award-winning account manager at Oracle, where he led complex B2B enterprise and mid-market software sales and marketing campaigns. Del holds a Bachelors degree from the University of California, Berkeley and received his Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School.
Liz Brown is a proud generalist committed to utilizing her interdisciplinary skillset as an urban planner, experience designer, and technologist to bridge gaps and highlight the importance of inclusion within innovation ecosystems. In her role as Managing Director at Backstage Philadelphia, she contributed to the development and launch of Backstage Capital’s accelerator for underrepresented founders. Presently, Liz is the cofounder and Chief Experience Officer at BCKG, a Philadelphia based design thinking consultancy aimed towards helping forward-thinking startups, organizations, and government agencies to unpack problems and identify effective solutions.
Prior to launching BCKG, she cofounded and served as Co-CEO & Head of Design at Webjunto, a user experience focused design and software development agency that served 100+ startups and enterprises globally. In her free time, Liz continues to do work in the community as a civic hacking enthusiast, meetup organizer, and globetrotting public speaker.
Charles Chen is the founder of Zzeal experiential marketing. Charles has created a name for himself in culinary & wellness space working with some of the largest CPG & Forturne 500 brands such as Google, Amazon, Whole Foods Market, Williams Sonoma to just name a few. Charles is a regular on Dr.Oz Show, Food Network, Netflix, ABC, NBC.
