US Air National Guard airman Jack Teixeira has been charged for stealing and sharing classified military information on a Discord chat group. Teixeira, who worked as a cyber defence operations journeyman, faces charges under the Espionage Act of unauthorized retention and transmission of national defence information, as well as unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents. If found guilty, he could serve up to 10 years in prison. The FBI investigation began after the sensitive information began appearing on public social networks, with Teixeira allegedly sharing documents containing intelligence about the war in Ukraine and US surveillance of allies, via a server he owned. Discord has since deleted the classified content and banned the accounts associated with its distribution.
