I'd like to share career wisdom I wish I had when just starting out.

Imagine a fresh-faced graduate, filled with dreams, feeling the crushing weight of rejection from P&G - the company I had built up as my dream launchpad. Looking back, the reasons for my rejection are clear - I was underprepared, nervous, and lacking in commercial awareness. The hard truth? I wouldn't have hired me either! The first piece of advice to take away from this: Always prepare thoroughly for interviews.

That painful experience served as my reality check, guiding me to an essential realisation: a company's brand prestige isn't everything. The skills and experiences you acquire throughout your journey are what genuinely shape your career. As it happened, my actual stepping stone was just a phone call away - a recruitment role right in the heart of bustling London. šŸŒ šŸŒ†

A specific date is etched deeply in my memory - September 15, 2008. As Lehman Brothers fell, I sat at my desk in my new role, fresh from university, staring into the face of market chaos, uncertain of my future. At that moment, an old mantra from my junior school basketball coach echoed in my mind: "attitude is everything." Embracing a positive attitude, proactive mindset, and a spirit of collaboration made all the difference, and my employer recognised that.

This leads to the next piece of advice: Maintain a positive and proactive attitude, especially during turbulent times.

During my journey, I depended heavily on my single job income, seeing it as a safety net. But here's an essential truth: don't put all your eggs in one basket. Start investing, even modest amounts, as early as you can. Let your money work for you. This advice often gets overlooked, but it's a game-changer. šŸŽÆšŸ’°

One element I feel was missing during my early career was mentorship. They're invaluable, offering guidance, pushing you beyond comfort, and connecting you with valuable people. Seek inspiring mentors and nurture those relationships.

As my career took flight, I found myself in a whirlwind of luxury. But amidst the glitz and glamour, I discovered a priceless truth: jobs may come and go, but your personal brand and network are enduring assets. Make them your focus from the start. Eventually, unearthing my true mission - to cultivate a kind, collaborative, and thriving legal community - proved more satisfying than any material success. šŸ…šŸš€

Here's my advice for those starting their career: Attitude is everything! Turn setbacks into comebacks, invest in your brand, grow your network, chase your passion & have fun. The journey matters as much as the destination. 🌟
