Yay, Monday.....as I write this I just arrived at work trying to make it through the day and week 😒😑 Today's #quiltoftheday from #kcrqf2023 Patty Simmons Pushing the Boundaries Cotton 46.9" x 60" Judged and won 1st place in the Artisan Modern category by the Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival (KCRQF), Overland Park, KS Insights on what and why I love this quilt: what immediately stood out to me is the contrast between the background fabric and the scrappy pieces up front, and of course, the overall composition of the work. Ms. Simmons did a fine job of piecing together these small scrap pieces and arranging them in a way that guides the viewer's eye to the epicenter of the piece, the scrap blocks. The straight line machine quilting does the background fabric justice as it allows the center design to stand alone and make a bold pleasing statement. As for Ms. Simmons pushing the boundaries, I believe with this piece she could go even further and deeper with her modern style, whether it's changing the composition or making the scrap blocks even more dynamic. If it were up to me, I'd snatch this piece in a heartbeat as it definitely aligns with my artistic brand and design sensibilities.
