I really love this quilt because aside from the fact that purple is one of my fave colors, I've always been enamored and strongly familiar with the story and livelihood of Joan of Arc. According to the maker of this quilt, she chose this trailblazing historic figure as her subject matter because Joan of Arc was the true embodiment of a strong woman, which I strongly agree. For those of us who aren't familiar with her story, Joan of Arc was this leading warrior figure who fought bravely in the long running battle between France and England during the 1400s. What I also love about her was that she wore men's clothing, which later got her executed (it wasn't allowed at the time). 

Ms. Wood and Ms. McCoy did a clever and remarkable job of rendering this celebrated she-ro by using strong saturated colors and precise realism to really make her come alive and literally pop! Each time I look at this piece it makes me only want to become just as bold and daring as this quilt as well as the subject herself. Someday I hope I and my lines of work can embolden and inspire many others this way!
