Do you trust everyone?

I watched an HR conference a few years ago, and the CEO of a large HR company said something that caught my attention.

He said he trusts everyone, and people must lose his trust by doing something. His default is to trust people.

On the other hand, I had just then had my trust completely broken and misused a few months ago. So, I decided to stop trusting everyone and only give trust to people who earn it.

Which was difficult for me as I have always believed in trusting people to do the right thing. Unfortunately, when they do not, it breaks away your trust in them and your ability to trust others.

I am working through it now and trying to find ways to trust people, but I know that I will always be extra careful to ensure that I do not make the mistakes I have already made by trusting the wrong people.

What about you? Do you trust people easily?
