Hello errrrbody! So, last night me and Kristy decided to watch a movie. As it was starting she asked if I’d go make some popcorn. “What am I gonna say, no?” Lol. While I’m sitting there waiting for it to be done (hoping I’m not missing anything good at the beginning of the movie) I thought about how sales is very similar to………POPCORN…. Trust me, I promise it’ll make sense lol. ...

In the sales world, persistence is key, agree?

In that way, it’s a lot like this bag of popcorn I’m making.

At first, it seemed like nothing was happening. I tossed that bag of kernels in the microwave, hit start, and there's silence…

But then, after a little time goes by, I hear it - pop... pop... pop...POP-POP-POP-POP-P-P-PPPPP.

Sales is just the same.

We’ve all been there. During prospecting, it feels like you're getting nowhere, right?

You reach out, make calls, and send emails, follow up, and it's crickets…

But then, out of the blue…

• You get a call back (POP) - your hopes “RISE” (pun intended)

• Another prospect shows interest (POP-POP)

• Suddenly you've got a meeting scheduled (POP-POP-POP)

• And then, like the grand finale of popcorn popping, YOU MAKE A SALE!

BUT WAIT…. THERE’S MORE!

I learned a 2nd lesson from that same bag of popcorn.

As it was popping, my ADHD kicked in. I grabbed my phone to jot down notes on the thoughts I was having for this blog post.

Can you guess what happened?

YUP!

I wasn’t paying attention, left the popcorn in too long, and ended up burning that bag.

PS: Burnt popcorn smells terrible!

That lead me to thinking about the second lesson:

If you leave yourself in the “metaphorical sales microwave“ too long without paying attention to, or taking the time to enjoy your wins (THE POPS), then you’re headed straight towards BURN OUT.

Burnout is a real risk in the world of sales.

So my friends, keep loading the microwave (your funnel) with a ton of kernels (prospecting activities), and remember, soon you’ll be able to enjoy a fresh some fresh popcorn (a sale)!

Oh btw, Kristy paused the movie for me. We watched The Flash. It was pretty good. 👍🏽

BE GREAT!
