Not everyone is lucky enough to have found their life's work. Some don't ever find it and they are OK with that. But if you want to find it, there's a way to start getting momentum in the right direction.

Think about what you are passionate about. 

Find people passionate about the same.

Better yet, find idols and experts in the areas that that you're passionate about.

Get as close as you can to them. 

Lean on them for learning, inspiration, motivation, and unseen opportunities.

This is how many of the greats got their start:
  · James Cameron started as a miniature model maker at Roger Corman Studios
  · Bob Dylan moved from Minnesota to NYC to be close to his in Folk music idols 
  · Arnold Schwarzenegger moved 250 miles to Munich to live in a gym around other body builders 

Don't make excuses that you'd be better off doing something else or making more money in something you aren't passionate about.

Follow your passions and the money will come.

The opportunity cost of wasting time far away from your passion is just too high.
