With all human knowledge apparently open to revision, we are openly reinventing the wheel on many many levels as evidenced by:

• Starting from scratch on things that are already known
• Repeating known mistakes
• Duplicating effort

It is completely natural and expected that younger generations challenge the wisdom of the older generations - it's a necessary challenge that keeps things fresh and improving and prevents stale from persisting

The problem that is bothering me and the rest of the industry is that we haven't put any protections on knowledge, so that anything can be challenged or revised without evidence or a better way

This is not only a nightmare for older generations, whose careers are lying in tatters because everything they know and have worked for has been changed, but this is as big a nightmare for the younger generations who have no source of truth, no known way to professional grow and this leads to massive levels of professionally-related anxiety because of the social media popularity contest. You have to keep up with the neighbours but you don't have the means to, and you're scared of losing your job at any time.

The quality of information, the filtering of misinformation and the management of knowledge are what's going to separate good from bad, success from failure as we move through this Age of Misinformation.

Misinformation has already killed most of UX and user research. It is one of the lurking forces behind the redundancies - misinformation does not drive business value, so you fire the people with the misinformation that didn't generate any value

My question to you is, what are you or your organisation doing to protect good information? Are you letting the tail wag the dog?

This now comes full circle to inexperienced non-practitioner leadership, who don't have the information and are easily misguided by pretty misinformation, and that's how you lose knowledge, value and practice knowledge.

You can accelerate all of this misinformation failure by bringing in transformation management consultants talking expensive garbage, by deploying immature AI at scale, and by ensuring that any seniority and good experience is kept as far from the building as possible.

Can you now see what's going on? All this optics engineering is leading to practice failures and redundancies and a major factor is misinformation.

We have a small window to demonstrate genuine value before the threat of AI becomes very real. We have to change course, we have to bring back the value generating knowledge and we have to do this quickly, otherwise we will be quickly and easily replaced by AI - no matter how ineffective or hallucinatory it is.
