𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠

The manufacturing process of a smartphone accounts for about 85 percent of its carbon footprint, making it the most damaging device to the environment. These emissions mainly come from metal extraction, shipping and production.

As of July 2024, some scientists believe that 2024 could be the hottest year on record, surpassing 2023. This is due to a combination of human-caused climate change and the natural weather phenomenon El Niño, both of which have contributed to record high temperatures. 

In fact, all six months of 2024 have so far exceeded the pre-industrial average by at least 1.5°C, including June 2024, which was the warmest June on record. This was the 13th consecutive month to be the warmest on record for its respective month in the ERA5 data record. 

Other notable climate events that occurred in 2024 include:

February: The United Kingdom, England, Wales, Germany, Switzerland, and the contiguous U.S. all experienced record-breaking warm Februarys

March: The 10th consecutive record warm month globally

June: Extreme heat was experienced by 4.97 billion people, including 619 million in India, 579 million in China, and 231 million in Indonesia. 

Climate change made these temperatures at least three times more likely to occur. Heavy rainfall in El Salvador and other Central American countries also caused flooding and landslides

While the challenge of climate change may seem overwhelming, individual actions can collectively make a significant impact.

1) Prioritise these 3R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)in your daily life. Opt for reusable products, repair items instead of replacing them, and recycle properly

2) Turn off lights and electronics when not in use, switch to energy-efficient appliances, and adjust your thermostat accordingly.

3) Spread awareness about climate change and encourage others to adopt sustainable habits.

4) Trees absorb carbon dioxide, helping to combat climate change. Plant trees or support organisations that do.

5) Reduce packaging, avoid single-use plastics, and compost food scraps.
