The Twelve Step Programs emphasize surrendering and letting go as key components to recovery. In surrendering, we realize that resentments are the number one offender. Like several long timers have stated, resentments are like me drinking poison and wanting the other person to die. Leaving resentments unchecked is a dangerous position for anyone. It leaves open the possibility to breed still more resentments. It allows us to obsess over the resentment, thus taking our precious freedoms. It is essential for us to learn to let go of our resentments before we, either intentionally or unintentionally, allow them to kill us.
