Traveling with Frontier Airlines out of San José’s Juan Santamaría International Airport was actually much smoother than I imagined. I’d heard mixed things about budget carriers, but I decided to give it a try for a quick and affordable trip back to the U.S. I arrived early, around three hours before my flight, which turned out to be a smart move. The Frontier check-in counter was easy to spot and the line moved fairly quickly. The staff at the desk were polite and bilingual, which made things easier since I speak limited Spanish. After checking in and dropping my bag, I made it through security and immigration without any hassle. The terminal itself was clean, comfortable, and had enough seating near the gates, plus free Wi-Fi that worked pretty well. I grabbed a coffee and a sandwich from one of the cafes before settling in at the gate. Boarding was on time and very organized, with clear announcements in both Spanish and English. The aircraft was basic but clean, and the crew were friendly and upbeat. I knew ahead of time that Frontier doesn’t offer complimentary snacks or entertainment, so I brought my own, which helped pass the time during the flight. We left right on schedule and landed earlier than expected, which is always a win. Overall, I found the entire experience to be efficient and surprisingly pleasant for a low-cost airline. If you're traveling light and don’t mind packing your own extras, Frontier at SJO is a smart choice. It’s a no-frills experience, sure, but it gets the job done affordably. I’d definitely fly with them again if the price is right and the schedule works. Just plan ahead, be patient, and enjoy the journey.
