One thing I never realized growing up was how impactful my parent's philosophies were on my mindset. They would never call me an idiot but would rather reprimand me for not trying hard enough, implying that I could get around any problem I would face and encourage me to challenge myself rather than let me believe I am only good up to a certain threshold. Now that I have matured I realize that while my parents weren't perfect, their decision to emphasize effort has had the greatest effect on the person I have come to be.
