In Luke 4:38–44, Jesus heals Simon’s mother-in-law and then, as the sun sets, people bring their sick to Him. He lays His hands on each one, heals them, and silences the demons who try to proclaim Him as the Son of God. Then, at dawn, He goes to a solitary place, but the people look for Him and try to keep Him from leaving because they’ve experienced Him. They’ve encountered the real, life-changing presence of God, and they want it to remain. That longing they felt not wanting Him to leave is the same longing every heart carries, whether we recognize it or not. The challenge is that in our modern, busy lives, that longing often gets buried under noise, responsibility, and distraction....
