Trend: Institutional & Corporate Adoption of Crypto Assets (Especially Bitcoin as a Treasury Asset)

What’s happening

More non-crypto companies are putting Bitcoin on their balance sheets as a treasury reserve. One report noted that 61 publicly-listed companies not primarily in digital assets have adopted so-called bitcoin treasury strategies. 

The market commentary expects this to become a broader “norm” in the latter half of 2025. 

Institutional flows (venture capital, funds) into crypto infrastructure and startups are rising again. For example, VC investment in crypto startups hit about US $4.9 billion in Q1 2025, the highest in over two years. 

Why it matters

When corporations adopt Bitcoin (and perhaps other crypto assets) as part of treasury management, crypto starts shifting from speculative/investor-only territory toward being seen as a more “institutional asset class” or reserve asset.

This kind of adoption can reduce perceived risk for some investors (since large corporates backing it adds legitimacy) and increase demand (potentially upward pressure on price) assuming supply stays constrained.

It also signals changing attitudes: crypto isn’t just “for geeks/traders” anymore — it’s being integrated into corporate finance strategy and conventional finance.

If more companies allocate part of their cash reserves to crypto, it could alter the capital flows and risk-profile of the crypto market.
